Like any account of what our world has become and where it's going, Powerful Times includes a mention of IT as a driver of change. Yet the book focuses on the other forces -- political, economic, religious, environmental -- that will determine where the world will be in 10 years. So how does it look? We'll face an aging population, more natural disasters resulting from global warming, the legacy of George W. Bush's efforts to export democracy and other U.S. values -- and the question of whether those values continue to influence, if not govern, the world. Global consultant Eamonn Kelly writes with an urgency that makes his book difficult to put down, even if the content may sound familiar to readers who follow macroeconomic trends. Less appealing are his book club-like questions at the end, which are intended as discussion points for organizations striving to thrive in the years ahead. IT/business collaboration, anyone?
