Linked In: The New CIO of ClubCorp - (on the job)

As the CIO of Carlson Restaurants Worldwide Inc., Deborah Lipscomb wasn't in the market for a new job. But when three acquaintances called her about the same CIO opening within a few days of one another, she decided to pursue the opportunity. As it turned out, the position -- senior vice president and CIO of ClubCorp USA Inc., a Dallas-based operator of golf courses, country clubs, and business and sports clubs -- tied in perfectly with Lipscomb's experience. Lipscomb met with ClubCorp executives, liked what she heard and joined the company in September. "CRM [customer relationship management], hospitality and retail; that's my background," Lipscomb says when describing what appealed to her about ClubCorp. "This job utilizes a combination of that experience."

Lipscomb's first order of business at the $900 million-plus company is to "focus on the business and figure out how to use technology in ways that enhance customer service and the overall guest experience." While Lipscomb admits that her golf game is rusty, she looks forward to engaging customers and learning about ClubCorp while hitting the links. So meeting customers -- and, yes, playing golf -- is part of her job. Though her game needs work, she has another motivation for playing: Lipscomb reports that her teenage son likes to hit the course. "That's something extra that makes this job exciting," she says. After all, how many activities can a mom and a teenage boy share?
